Recently, 'Foreign Language Teaching at an Early Age' is getting more and more importance. Though there are contrary points of view, it is generally accepted that foreign language teaching starting in an early age does positively influence the overall development of a child. The system o f foreign language teaching in Turkish schools has changed substantially after transition from 5 to an uninterrupted education of 8 years in the primary schools. This change lead to the founding of new primary schools with intensive programs for teaching a foreign language. On the other hand, starting with the school year 2004/2005 a second foreign language became in the secondary schools compulsory. Internationally considered, bilingual and trilingual foreign language teaching programs have proved to be very successful and are supported through systematic researches and projects.The present study discusses the subject 'Foreign Language Teaching at an Early Age' in its international scale, examines the Turkish application and introduces two major projects on intensive foreign language teaching at an early age.
