The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the elementary school education in Turkey. This research aims to display the academic achievement differences in elementary schools with respect to certain subjects (Turkish, Maths, Science and Technology, Social studies, Foreign language), provinces and geographic regions. The results obtained from the High School Placement Test which is first taken by the (6th and 7th) grade students in June 2008 are used as the main data. The research indicates that the education and instruction in elementary schools are not successful enough and there are remarkable differences in academic achievement with respect to provinces and geographic regions according to SBS results.
