Thisstudy is about to determine the views of elementary and secondaryschool science and mathematics teachers on the issues ofwhat models and their roles are, why and how they are used. For thispurpose, in 2010—2011 academic year, 41 science and mathematics teachersworking in Sorgun, Yozgat were selected as the sample. A questionnaireconsisting of 30 Likert type items was administered to this sample. Results haveshown that teachers have lack of information on scientific model and itsnature. Teachers have a limited understanding of models as thinking themof exact replicas; cannot use models quantitatively or interpretatively; andsuffer in deciding what the modelis. Therefore, teachers should get better acquainted with thenature of models, which is very important on the formation of scientificknowledge, and teaching programs should give more space to model and modelling activities.
