In this study, the pedagogical aspect of the values composing the cultural richness in “Aganta Burina Burinata”, where the Fisherman of Halicarnassus treats of sea and seamen themes co-occurring in a mutual relationship, is emphasized. In this study, the novel “Aganta Burina Burinata” written by the Fisherman of Halicarnassus (in Turkish: Halikarnas Balıkçısı) is examined within the context of “values transfer system”; i.e. based on the model of “topic aspects of basic life experiences”, it aims to determine and interpret the values to be transmitted and their way of featuring in the present text. Thus, “Aganta Burina Burinata”, recommended by the Ministry of Education as one of the “100 Essential Work” for students, contains an educational dimension in addition to its literary aspect. Literary texts used in language classrooms undoubtedly assume a central role in developing communicative competence of students. Alongside their contribution to consolidate writing-reading skills, aesthetic awareness and reading pleasure, they can also be considered as a reflection of reader’s cultural baggage assisting in her/his personal development.
