The main purpose of the research was determined as the examination of parental views on the role of parents in special education. In this framework, the major goal of the research is to look into the perspectives of parents on their role in special education. The study group of the research consists of 10 parents whose children are studying in a special education school in Aksaray. Phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods, was used as a research method in order to determine the opinions of the parents on the role of parents in special education. A semi-structured interview form was used within the scope of the research, and the interview form used consisted of open-ended questions about the personal perceptions of parents about the role of parents in special education. Obtained data were analyzed with the content analysis method. According to the analysis of the data, it was concluded that the families perceived the role of the parent in education as helping their children during the homework, and they expressed their opinion that they fulfilled their duties in this regard, but they did not try to take additional measures to support their children’s development and to spare time for participation in school activities. However, it has been concluded that families receive external support regarding educational activities and show rehabilitation centers as a source of support. As a result, it can be stated that parents do not have enough information about the place and importance of the family in special education, the academic development and the support of children. In the light of these results, it is recommended to organize seminars on the place and importance of the family in special education for parents and to include activities that make family participation compulsory in the curriculum.
