The aim of this research was to determine the opinions of Social Studies teacher candidates about the effectiveness of the media on their political decisions in a democratic process. In the study, a survey model was utilized. 411 Social Studies teacher candidates who were the students of different Faculties of Education all over Turkey participated in the study in the 2014-2015 spring semester. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 16.0 statistical package and interpreted with descriptive statistical methods. According to the findings, almost half of Social Studies teacher candidates formulate their political views on their own; they do not see the media as an effective factor in their decisions; on the basis of this inefficiency there seems distrust on media. As a matter of fact, Social Studies teacher candidates also believe that the media has a potential to be politically effective over the society. The general results of the study reveal that fact that Social Studies candidate teachers currently have negative attitudes toward the media.
