FAMILY PROFILES OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF IMMIGRATION AND THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESS

The purpose of this study, which is conducted as a part of TUBITAK Evrena 1010 project (Project No: 112K600), is to examine family profiles of high school students in relation with school success. This study is based on a quantitative stance and data are collected via a questionnaire that is conducted on 1658 high school students. The data are obtained from 16 high schools in four provinces in Istanbul that have the highest rates of immigration (Zeytinburnu, Gaziosmanpaşa, Büyükçekmece and Esenyurt Regions). As a part of determining the family profile, parents’ educational level, students’ perceptions of family income, number of siblings, second language spoken within the family, generation variables and parents’ place of birth are examined in relation with students’ success. Results of this study is expected to get shared and give insights for teachers and school administrators.
