The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the mind map technique, which has visual and written content, on secondary school students’ reading comprehension and writing skills. The study, a quasi-experimental design through last test control group, was implemented with 60 fifth grade students (30 control group and 30 experimental groups). The experimental group was taught about mind maps, and how they are used, through examples and explanations. Then, the mind maps were used by the students when preparing texts for a Fine Art theme (the usual process would be to implement activities using a workbook). The mind map techniques influenced in a positive way the students’ reading comprehension and writing skills.
