In mathematics activities with students, it is observed that students have difficulties to solve questions related to spatial content. Therefore, "Spatial Aptitude Test" has been applied to the students having education at Izmit Science and Arts Centre. the findings obtained from test results reveal the fact that they are below the expected level. To improve the spatial ability of students and to make them realize that mathematics and art are interrelated areas, integrating the Mathematics and Visual Arts disciplines and their contents were decided upon. Research and control groups are created. In this study, an experimental research model with a control group has been applied. Among the gifted students registered at Izmit Science and Art Center in Kocaeli, randomly chosen 11 students as an experimental group and 11 students as the control group were formed respectively. In mathematics, the topics related to the use of spatial talent are determined and with the help of interdisciplinary relations, practical visual arts activities were applied in the classroom without supporting rote learning.

Thus, students have the opportunity to use visual and spatial skills by establishing and practicing relationships between mathematics and art activities, to develop their spatial skills. Furthermore, our experimental group, which is consisted of 11 students, have attended to the “mathematics and art” course that is taught in Mathematics Teacher Education Department of Kocaeli University Faculty of Education. A pre-test and a post-test are applied before and after the applications of spatial talent tests, and the results are analyzed accordingly. In data analysis, frequency, an average and independent sample of t-test are used. The data is arranged in tabular form.
