Educational Science: From Past to Present

Educational science is a discipline that has existed since the early 20th century. It emerged when education has been handled with a scientific perspective based on experimentation, observation, and research. The demands of teacher training have previously influenced the science of education. Over time, it has been shaped by its association with various disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, economics, and politics. Thus, educational science has transformed from a micro dimension limited to teaching methods to a macro dimension related to politics, the economy, and society. Recently, however, educational science has become a technical field by coming under the influence of teacher training demands again. Today, a conceptual confusion exists regarding educational science. To solve problems related to education in the world in general and in Turkey in particular, a review of studies that characterize educational science should be conducted. In this sense, educational science should be defined in terms of aims, methods, limits, and concepts.
