Traditional education based on behaviourism and transferring knowledge is not sufficient to equip individuals with necessary competencies of the contemporary world such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and autonomous learning. Therefore, some cognitive theories and methods, some of which are constructivism, and discovery learning, have been developed. Turkish Language Education has recently adopted constructivism which is the theoretical base of active learning and coursebooks have been written in the same direction to put the theory in practice. This paper aims to exemplify some creative text activities to enable students to use background knowledge to construct meaning, work in pairs and groups and generate new ideas in the context of active learning. For this purpose, a number of tasks have been proposed on a literary text by Kanevski. This text study was applied in several schools as a part of 3. Fethiye Culture and Arts Days (26-30 April, 2010). The paper ends with the impressions of the studies in Fethiye.
