It is a widespread approach that literary texts contain plural meanings and that they cannot be consumed with a singular meaning. Reader Response Theory not only supports this idea but also suggests creative means for the teaching of literature. Thus, individuals in different cultural settings are expected to exhibit different receptions. This study aims to investigate the differences and similarities in the reception of "Bu Yollar Uzar" (These Roads Stretch), a short story by Memduh Şevket Esendal, a modernist Turkish writer, by students attending Turkish and German Language Teaching programs in Germany and Turkey. The study examines the varying receptions of individuals with intercultural qualities in different settings, particularly from the aspects of curiosity and jealousy, in a qualitative manner.
