Abstract

This study aims to conduct graduate theses on “executive functions” in early childhood published in Türkiye between 2000 and 2025. A total of 61 theses (38 master’s, 23 doctoral) available in the YÖK National Thesis Center database were analyzed within the scope of the study. The studies were examined in terms of publication year, thesis type, university, language of publication, research method and design, study group, data collection tools, and variables addressed. The study utilized the document analysis method. Based on the findings, it was determined that the number of theses on “executive functions” was higher in 2025 (n = 19) and 2019 (n = 13) compared to other years. It was found that the vast majority of the theses were conducted at the master’s level. The quantitative research approach and correlational design were the most frequently preferred methods in the theses. A significant portion of the theses included children in their sample groups. Additionally, scales were predominantly used as data collection tools. Among the types of variables in the theses, demographic characteristics and variables related to social-emotional development were the most common. It is expected that the findings from this study will serve as a guide for researchers in the field of early childhood education, particularly those working in the area of executive functions.
